Audio Systems Technician – The McKittrick Hotel

The McKittrick Hotel, home of Sleep No More, Gallow Green, Manderley Bar, and The Club Car is seeking an Audio Systems Technician. The Audio Systems Technician is responsible for preserving and maintaining all elements of the sound design of all venues within the McKittrick Hotel to the quality of the design intention. You will be responsible for preserving the good condition of all audio elements and ensure that they are safe and well functioning. The successful candidate will conduct essential maintenance of the venue’s various audio systems and operate as a substitute audio engineer for Sleep No More and events on Gallow Green and in the Club Car while remaining in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

– Work on a two-person team in conjunction with Audio Supervisor to maintain, upgrade or modify audio systems

– Maintain workshop and equipment inventories, including tools and consumables

– Conduct regular safety inspections of rigged audio equipment

– Report back regularly to the Audio Supervisor about the state of the audio systems

– Stay up to date with both audio show tracks to act as a substitute when necessary

– Stay up to date with operating procedures for the sound reinforcement systems on Gallow Green and in the Club Car

– Allow for scheduling flexibility to accommodate special events shifts

– Other duties as assigned by the Audio Supervisor 


– Associate of Arts or BFA in Technical Theatre or related field or equivalent experience.

– 2+ years of professional experience

– Proficiency with large format digital mixing consoles including:  Avid Venue Profile/SC48, MIdas/Behringer M/X32, Midas Pro 1 / Pro 2 

– Understanding of Dante systems

– Basic knowledge of Qlab operations

– Knowledge of speaker management/DSP Processing systems including: DBX DriveRack, Meyer Galileo / Galaxy

– A strong understanding of wireless audio transmitter and receiver products (wireless microphones, wireless in-ear monitor systems)

– A strong understanding of  industry standards for audio applications

– A strong understanding of audio signal flow and routing in digital and analog applications

– A basic understanding and willingness to explore networking concepts (as applied in audio, lighting, show control, and otherwise)

– Have a basic understanding of power distribution in theatrical applications 

– Have a basic understanding of musical instrument equipment (i.e. changing and tuning drum heads, changing guitar tubes, etc)

– Demonstrate strong leadership, self-sufficiency, organization, and interdepartmental cooperation 

– Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of supplies, etc., up to 50 lbs., as well as occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching

– Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a high paced setting

– Strong verbal communication skills; great attention to detail; adaptable and calm under pressure; proactive self starter

– Be comfortable with a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and holidays

Environmental Factors:

*Can complete responsibilities and duties under the following conditions, when working in show conditions*

– Strobing lights

– Continuous, large quantities of haze 

– Minimal to no lighting

– Spaces which contain large amounts of dust & uneven flooring

– Required half-masks worn by all employees during performance

– Numerous trips up and down six floors, unaided by the elevator
