Sonnet
Last night I dreamed of Manderley again
The music led me deep into the maze
I traced my hand along the walls and then
The bar appeared, alive with lights ablaze
I found myself within the dark hotel
A twisting knot of threads around my heart
A pulsing beat, the clanging of a bell
A dozen pathways pulling me apart
A hundred places that I want to be
A thousand clues that I cannot discern
We never can go back to Manderley
But sometimes in my dreams I still return
I mourn the scenes I’ve never seen before
And know that very soon I’ll sleep no more.
